How Often Should Work Trucks Be Detailed in Arizona?

Arizona heat, dust, and UV age a work truck interior twice as fast. Here's a realistic detailing schedule for fleets and owner-operators in the Phoenix metro.

There's no single right answer, but there is a wrong one: “when it gets bad.” By the time a truck interior looks bad in Phoenix, the dash has been baking at 150°F+ for months, dust has worked into every seam, and whatever was spilled in February is permanent. Here's a schedule that actually works in this climate.

The Arizona factor

  • UV: Interior plastics and leather dry out and crack without protectant. Reapplying UV protection every 4–6 weeks during summer is the difference between a 5-year dash and a 10-year dash.
  • Dust: Valley dust is fine and abrasive. It gets into vents, seat tracks, and electronics, and it grinds into upholstery under passengers.
  • Heat: Spills and residue bond faster. Stains that would lift easily elsewhere set within days here.

Recommended schedule for a daily-use work truck

  • Full interior reset (or decontamination for technician cabs): 2–4 times per year. Think start of summer, end of monsoon season, and once in winter at minimum.
  • Maintenance reset: every 2–6 weeks. Light vacuum, hard-surface wipe, glass, UV protectant refresh, and an exterior wash. This is what holds the standard between full services.
  • Headlight restoration: as needed — typically every few years once a ceramic coating has been applied, sooner for vehicles parked outside full-time.

For fleets: consistency beats intensity

A fleet that gets a light maintenance reset every three weeks looks better every single day than a fleet that gets a heroic deep clean twice a year. Customers see the truck on a Tuesday in August, not on the day after the detail. A recurring program also gives you a paper trail — every visit documented per vehicle — that's useful for maintenance records and driver accountability.

For owner-operators

If you're one person with one truck, a full reset twice a year plus keeping a UV protectant on the dash yourself between visits is a realistic minimum. Add a maintenance visit before any season where you're meeting new clients.

Put it into practice.
